Iirc this error looks like you dont have VESA support. Back in the good old DOS-days there was a "general" driver (Scitech Display Doctor) that could fix this for you, dont know how it works today but might be worth checking.

ah ah bug slayed !!!

after 15mn of concertation with Paul, we found it !!

Under Windows 2000/NT and probably XP :

1. Run your .bat as usual.
2. Right after it, i really mean right after, press Alt+Enter to toggle full screen mode.

3. ta daam, here's the wonderful ds1edit

coming from modmaking, i'll probably restart working on the windows version of dt1debug+dt1maker before deeping into ds1edit as Paul advises me.

2 bugs fix, thanxs to Claudi Paniagua for pointing me them.

* ds1scene.exe tried to replace the palette in the pcx after it was first save, but due to a bug, it was *adding* it, which is not the good format of pcx. Some softs could read it, while some other couldn't, depending how they read the palette. Fix.

* ds1edit.exe

    - now use the same pcx saving code as ds1scene.exe. The pcx should be the same, except that of course ds1edit save the screenshot with the current gamma correction value (set it to 1.00 for exact same screenshots).

    - when right-click while NOT in a color depth of 8 (so 15, 16, 24 or 32), the prog crashed. A mess between bitmap of 8 color depth and the screen of another one. Fix.

Also, ask the prog to only use fullscreen modes, that *may* fix the bug under w2K about VESA, but I'm really not confident about it.

I am not really sure your tips (ALT+enter) work well. Any other idea ?

At Joël's home I have see by my own eyes that it worked. He have windows 2000 with a Nvidia Gforce 2. He launch a .bat, a window appear, and the prog start to loadwing dt1. As quickly as possible, he press Alt + Enter, the window go to fullscreen mode, and when the prog itinialize the gfx mode, it works (if he don't pres alt+enter, the prog stop because he don't find a vesa mode how weird).

I can't help more sorry, because I just have window 98.

Unfortunately I get a slightly worse problem with Windows XP, when running your ds1 editor. I don't need to hit Alt-Enter to get full screen mode, but I get a completely black screen and no controls work, not even ESC. At least Alt-Tab lets me bail to Windows and halt the program externally. This happens whether I try running the program in native mode or any of the compatibility modes. I hope you and Joel are able to get past this with a Windows version.

On my older machine with Windows 98 the program runs just fine, and quite fast too.
